Non-Profit Legal Advisor/Expert
Role Overview:
We are seeking a Legal Advisor/Expert to join our team. In this role, you would review our practices and policies regarding tax laws, donations, fundraising, insurance, HR, report filing, and any other regulatory requirements for non profits to ensure that we are fully compliant with the BC legislation. Your efforts will help safeguard our organization’s integrity and sustainability.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of non-profit compliance requirements, including tax laws, donations, fundraising, permits and insurance (or willing to self learn)
Time Commitment:
- Approximately 1-3 hours per week depending on organizational needs/your experience
- 3 month minimum requirements.

Board of Director and Secretary

Overview:
The Board of Director and Secretary plays a crucial role in ensuring the effective governance of the Victoria Latin Dance Association. This individual will serve as a voting member of the Board and fulfill the additional duties of Secretary, including maintaining accurate records, facilitating communication among Board members, and ensuring compliance with legal and organizational requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Board Member:
- Attend all Board meetings and actively participate in discussions and decision-making processes.
- Provide strategic guidance and oversight to support the organization’s mission and goals.
- Serve on committees and task forces as needed, contributing expertise and leadership.
- Assist in the development and implementation of the organization’s strategic plan.
- Ensure the organization’s financial health and sustainability by reviewing financial reports, approving budgets, and participating in fundraising efforts.
- Act as an ambassador for the organization, promoting its mission and programs to the broader community.
As the Secretary:
- Prepare, distribute, and maintain accurate minutes of all Board and committee meetings.
- Ensure that all Board members receive timely notifications of meetings and relevant documentation.
- Maintain and safeguard all corporate records, including bylaws, meeting minutes, and Board resolutions.
- Ensure compliance with legal requirements, including filing of annual reports, maintaining updated Board member information, and managing corporate documents.
- Facilitate communication among Board members and between the Board and the organization’s staff.
- Assist in the organization of the annual general meeting (AGM) and any special meetings.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrates a commitment to the mission and values of the Victoria Latin Dance Association.
- Previous Board experience, preferably in a non-profit setting.
- Strong organizational and administrative skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and build consensus among diverse stakeholders.
- Knowledge of non-profit governance practices and legal requirements.
- Proficiency in using digital tools for document management and communication.

Community Outreach Ambassador
The Victoria Latin Dance Association is seeking a Community Outreach Ambassador to help promote our events!
This volunteer role involves:
- Distributing and posting flyers around town.
- Visiting local stores to ask if you can display our posters.
- Removing old posters after each event and replacing them with new ones for the upcoming month.
- Contacting a few radio stations the week before our events to request announcements.
This role typically requires about 4 hours per month, with flexibility to fit into your schedule. You’ll need access to your own vehicle to travel around town. Most stores are very supportive and excited to help promote our community events!
As a member of our volunteer team, you’ll receive free access to all of our regular events, gain valuable experience for your resume, and be part of a thriving community supporting a wonderful non-profit. You’ll also get a letter of reference if needed.

Volunteer Coordinator
Overview:
We are seeking an outgoing Volunteer Coordinator to join our team and play a vital role in recruiting volunteers for various event-related tasks. This is an excellent opportunity to be involved in organizing and supporting community events while connecting with a diverse group of people.
Responsibilities:
- Actively engage with attendees at events to identify and recruit potential volunteers who would be willing to volunteer at future events (free entry provided to volunteers).
- Collect contact information (emails, phone numbers, and names) of individuals interested in volunteering.
- Determine volunteer interests and assign them to suitable areas such as:
- Handling payments
- Door entry
- Event setup and takedown
- DJ playlist creation
- Securing sponsors
- Administrative assistance
- Maintain a database of potential volunteers and their areas of interest in the Google Drive.
- Send out volunteer requests as needed for upcoming events and coordinate volunteer schedules for events.
- Provide clear instructions and support to volunteers to ensure smooth operation of events.
Requirements:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to engage with diverse groups of people and build rapport quickly.
- Strong organizational skills to manage contact information and volunteer schedules.
- Enthusiasm for community events and volunteerism.
- Flexibility to spend approximately one hour per event recruiting volunteers.

Welcome Ambassador
Join Us as a Welcome Ambassador
The Victoria Latin Dance Association is seeking enthusiastic door greeters for our monthly events, held on the last Sunday of every month from September to May!
Your Role:
- Welcome guests and create a warm atmosphere
- Assist with event entry for a 45-minute shift between 4:00 and 8:30 p.m.
- Distribute raffle tickets and stamp guests upon entry

First Aid Attendant
Role Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated individual with a valid first aid certification to ensure the safety and well-being of our attendees. Your primary responsibility will be to be present at our events, ready to respond in case of an emergency. We will provide an emergency kit, and should you need additional supplies, we are happy to accommodate your needs.
Responsibilities:
- Attend our events and be available for any first aid emergencies.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all attendees.
- Communicate any additional first aid supply needs to the team.
Time Commitment:
- Summer: Approximately 3-4 hours per week during six to eight events. Attendance at 6/8 of these events is required.
- September to May: 3-4 hours on the last Sunday of every month for our monthly event.

Taxi Dancer
Are you an experienced dancer with a passion for spreading the joy of Latin dance? If so, we have an exciting volunteer opportunity for you!
Requirements:
- Ability to lead and follow the basics of salsa, bachata, kizomba, and merengue.
- Commitment to attending our monthly indoor social events and 80% of our outdoor summer events (free access provided).
- Participate in the introduction dance lessons at the events and spend the following one hour social dancing exclusively with newcomers and beginners.
- Ability to create an encouraging and welcoming environment for those new to the Latin dance community.
Minimum three-month commitment, with the option to extend.
