Alicia Larocque

Hey there,

My name is Alicia, but hold on a sec! It’s not your typical North American pronunciation; it’s the Latin way, with some spice – think “Ali-sea-ah.” Now that we’ve got that sorted, let’s dive into my wild journey through the vibrant world of Latin dance here in Victoria, BC!

About 8-9 years ago, I stumbled headfirst into salsa, bachata, and kizomba. Want to hear how it all began? Brace yourself for a chuckle!

Picture this: Yours truly got invited to a beginner salsa class by someone I met on a dating app. Little did I know, this class was led by the amazing Christina Morrison from Salsa Caliente. Fast forward, we ended up touring around Seattle, Oregon, and Vancouver, shaking our hips and having an absolute blast!

Shortly after starting learning with Christina, I simultaneously got some spicy tips from Javier, which added that extra zing to my moves. We even wowed the crowd at Robson Square with one of my favourite performances to date. These days, I’m still mentoring and assisting with an amazing friend, Ronald Martinez at Latin Dance Canada, picking up new steps and techniques along the way as a lead and a follow.

When I’m not dancing, I’m busy directing the Victoria Latin Dance Association. I’m all about bringing folks together, setting up cool events, and making our dance community even stronger. Teamwork’s my jam, and I’m all for keeping our dance world growing and thriving.

Creating an inclusive and inspiring space where everyone feels welcome is my goal. It’s all about spreading the love for dance and making some awesome new friends. Come join me in celebrating Latin dance culture through dance and friendships!

Catch you on the dance floor!
